Cofton Ltd agrees further land sales at Norfolk sites

  • David Wilson Homes and Bloor Homes buy 14.5 acres at Blenheim Grange, RAF Watton
  • Twigden Homes buys 10 acres at Queen’s Hills, Costessey

Just one month since Cofton Ltd won its planning appeal to develop more homes at Blenheim Grange, the 40-acre residential regeneration of former Norfolk airbase RAF Watton, it has sold 14.5 acres of land to David Wilson Homes (7.5 acres) and Bloor Homes (7 acres).

Cofton has already begun preparation of the site, which had been vacant for the past 15 years, in readiness for the newly appointed house builders, which hope to commence work in June 2007. David Wilson and Bloor will join Taylor Woodrow, which has already commenced work on part of the site with properties currently being sold.

Birmingham-based land regeneration specialist, Cofton Ltd also announced the sale of 10 acres of land to Twigden Homes at its Queen’s Hills site in Costessey, on the outskirts of Norwich. Twigden Homes (part of the Kier Group) is the latest major housebuilder to take a stake in Queen’s Hills, in addition to Bovis Homes (14 acres), George Wimpey (20 acres), Barratt (15 acres) and Bloor Homes (7 acres).

The estimated £190M Queen’s Hills development in Costessey is the largest single new development in Norfolk. It will provide more than 1,300 new homes, 86 acres of country park and key community facilities, including a neighbourhood centre and school. The site received planning approval in May 2005.

Peter Nelson, managing director/ Cofton Ltd said: "We are delighted to be working with such reputable housebuilders as David Wilson Homes, Bloor and Twigden Homes in Norfolk. Affordable housing is much needed at Blenheim Grange to ease the difficulties of first-time buyers and key workers in the community. I am very pleased we’ve been able to move on things so quickly and have found buyers just one month after receiving our planning consent. Similarly, it is very satisfying to be taking strides forward at Queen’s Hills, one of the largest and most exciting developments underway in Norfolk."
